Review the Everbright Solar Fairy Lights - White 50 LEDs
Great lights - a few problems
I love these lights. The quality of the LED is good and they charge well (sometimes). This is the small issue I had - after working finr for a week or two, I then charged the unit via USB and they stopped working. It took some time and a few emails from customer services to make me realise that evertime I unscrewed the charger from the fence mounting that I used, it was disturbing the battery contacts. I subsequently found poor contacts and signs of corossion. This was making them intermittently fail every time they were disturbed. After cleaning the contacts and batteries they worked ok. I am now careful when I remove the pack for charging. So this is a design niggle and stops them getting 5 stars for me, though hasnt been an issue now I understand the problem. On the plus side, customer services were extremely helpful and quick to respond.

Great fairy lights!! (White 50 LEDs)
I was a bit hesitant to buy these lights as my wife was finding dozens of cheaper options (non-solar) on other sites (*cough* fleabay *cough). But I was really impressed with the features listed on the Solar Centre website. I am glad I decided to give them a shot!
I scored a set (in time for Christmas) and got them set up in the front window of our house. I bought them to put outside in our back courtyard after Christmas but figured since I have them why not put them up out front for a bit.
The lights and wiring appear to be really well made and don't look like they'll be coming apart soon (a problem with the cheaper lights my wife was buying). The battery pack/solar panel feels a little cheaper than I expected but I think it will do the job nicely and, short of dropping it from a height, should last a while.
I had a problem with the supplied batteries not working, even after a full day of sunlight and an extra day of USB charging... Not sure why but after I swapped them out for a set of my own rechargeable batteries we were off and running. Time will tell if the problem was in the charger or in the batteries (I'm hoping the latter).
Finally, I'd like to suggest three things to the folks at the Solar Centre:
1. Maybe look at getting a better quality of plastic for the battery pack/charger unit... It currently just feels too cheap and potentially weak/brittle.
2. In addition to the screw mount and spike mount options I reckon a good quality suction cup mount (a good quality one as the poor quality ones are just plain crap and likely to fall off without warning) would be a winner! I had to rig up a piece of wire to hold my battery pack/solar panel up in the window of our front room. If it had a decent quality screw on suction cup attachment then... Well, you get my drift.
3. I'd like to see you offering the battery pack/solar chargers as a separate option (without the lights). I will be mounting my lights (and some more I buy) in the back courtyard, as I mentioned earlier, but for special events (Christmas, Halloween etc) I'd like to be able to just unplug a string or two and move them to the front of the house. Having to remove the battery pack/solar panel as well every time is annoying.

These lights are bright white as described. I like the way you can remove just the charging section and use a USB. Very pleased!

Outdoor solar lights
Great lights, shame the sun doesn't shine enough to charge them. But love the way you can remove the batteries and charge as normal rechargeables. Much quicker than using the USB adapter which would have taken much longer than the recommended 3 hours.

Worked straight out of the box, and now shining from my decking. A bigger solar charger than previous model I had, & hopefully will last just as long. Very prompt delivery.

Great lights that have charged successfully even on a dull winter day. Very useful having USB charging as back up. Excellent delivery service.

Brilliant lights. Love the USB charger. Service also very good. First batteries would not charge. One quick phone call and replacements were in the post that day

I have only had them a few days but so far they are working every night. Only time will tell how durable they are and if the weather gets to them

I now have my replacement batteries and the lights are working. They are nice and bright. Only time will tell how long they will work and if the solar panel charges enough to keep the lights working when they are outside at Christmas

What's the difference between the old Everbrights and the new ones?
We have fundamentally improved the design, reliability, performance and price of the new Everbrights.
We have moved away from the old design where the solar panel and control box were two separate units. The new Everbright solar panel and control box are combined into one unit. This state of the art design makes the unit much lighter and much more waterproof.
Everbright’s are now USB chargeable which means you can use them inside your home as well as outside. USB also gives you the option to fully charge your lights in time for a party or special occasion if the weather has let you down.
The old Everbrights had a specialist sealed battery pack which was not commonly available and tricky to access. The new Everbrights use standard AA rechargeable batteries which are available in all supermarkets and can be replaced in under a minute without so much as a screwdriver.
Our new innovative Multi-Mount Installation System gives you the option to set up your Everbrights in virtually any location that gets good access to sunlight including your lawn, decking, fence, trellis, wall or roof.
The new Everbrights come with 2 extra modes so there are now 8 modes to choose from instead of 6. We've also made 'constant on' the first mode as this is the most popular mode based on customer feedback.
Although incredibly reliable, there was a rare fault which affected the buttons on small number of old Everbright units. The new Everbrights use a much simpler and more reliable push switch mechanism which has completely fixed this issue.
Now for the really good news! We have reduced the price of the new Everbrights considerably. A new set of 50 LEDs (5 metres) will cost you £19.99 which is £10 less than the old sets of Everbright 50 LEDs. The 100 LEDs (10 metres) have also been reduced by £10 to £29.99. We couldn't bring the cost down on the 280 LED bulb set (28 metres) but we have added 20 extra bulbs to 300 bulbs (30 metres) and kept the price the same at £69.99.

How it works
During the day the sun's rays charge the two rechargeable AA batteries inside the Everbright's solar panel module. After dark the charge stored in the batteries power the lights. In the morning the lights turn off automatically and charge up again ready for the night ahead. The Everbrights are fully automatic so you don’t need to turn them on and off each night, but you can operate them manually if you like.
The new Everbrights also have a back-up USB charging capability. Simply disconnect the fairy light string and take the solar panel module inside where you can use the supplied USB charging cable to fully charge your Everbrights via your computer. If you don’t have a computer you can always use a USB Mains Adaptor.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you sell replacement solar panel as mine seems to have stopped working on some cycles.
By julie on Feb 15, 2014
We don't sell replacement solar panels for this unit. If you are still within the 12 month warranty period I would recommend contacting the office: Returns@TheSolarCentre.co.uk to complete some troubleshooting or potentially replace your unit.
I am looking for white solar led fairy lights but must have white or clear wire can you help?
By Simon on Jan 23, 2014
or the curtains
both have a white wire in between each LED bulb.
Your video shows the solar panel and control box in white and the installation guide shows the solar panel and control box in green. Can you confirm what colour the solar panel and control box will be in this set?
By Andrew on Jan 23, 2014
I can confirm the fairy lights all come with a green control box - the installation photo's are from an older batch of lights.
What length of wiring is there between the solar panel and the first lights please?
By Peter on Jan 23, 2014
There's 2m of cable between the panel and the control box, there's then another 1m between the control box and the first LED bulb.
