It has a lot of graphs and numbers but what exactly does it mean?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m here to provide a closer look and point out some of the interesting trends.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesolarcentre.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Offshore-Renewables.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3395 alignleft\" alt=\"Offshore Renewables\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thesolarcentre.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Offshore-Renewables.jpg\" width=\"210\" height=\"137\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thesolarcentre.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Offshore-Renewables.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thesolarcentre.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Offshore-Renewables-380x250.jpg 380w, https:\/\/www.thesolarcentre.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Offshore-Renewables-90x60.jpg 90w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" \/><\/a>Renewable Energy on The Up!<\/h2>\n<p>This graph shows the gradual increase of renewable energy produced by the UK from 2004 to 2012. The UK only became interested in renewable energy in the mid-1990\u2019s. The news is good! Each year has shown an increase and each year it has been above the target set by the government.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3382\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3382\" style=\"width: 847px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesolarcentre.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/UK-Energy-Produced-by-Renewables.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3382 \" alt=\"UK Energy Produced by Renewables\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thesolarcentre.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/UK-Energy-Produced-by-Renewables.png\" width=\"847\" height=\"579\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thesolarcentre.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/UK-Energy-Produced-by-Renewables.png 941w, https:\/\/www.thesolarcentre.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/UK-Energy-Produced-by-Renewables-300x204.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 847px) 100vw, 847px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3382\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The percentage of UK Energy Produced by Renewables<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>But It\u2019s Not All Good News \u2026<\/h2>\n<p>However, the target set for the government is low compared to other countries. Each time we\u2019ve surpassed that target it has only been by <b>0.1%, <\/b>which is hardly breaking any records. Germany, for instance, has just broken its monthly solar power generation record (again). In July 2013 they logged 5.1 terawatt&#8217;s hours of electricity. (To put that in to perspective we only got 1114.2 gigawatts from renewable sources!)<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3380\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3380\" style=\"width: 752px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesolarcentre.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Installed-Capacity-of-PV-Per-Country.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3380 \" alt=\"Installed Capacity of PV Per Country\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thesolarcentre.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Installed-Capacity-of-PV-Per-Country.png\" width=\"752\" height=\"492\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thesolarcentre.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Installed-Capacity-of-PV-Per-Country.png 940w, https:\/\/www.thesolarcentre.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Installed-Capacity-of-PV-Per-Country-300x196.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 752px) 100vw, 752px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3380\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The total capacity of Photovoltaic panels per country.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Quote From Clean Technica:<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cIn terms of total solar power capacity per capita, Germany crushes every other country. At the end of 2012, it had approximately 400 MW of solar power capacity per million people, considerably more than #2 Italy at 267 MW per million people, #3 Belgium at 254 MW per million people, and #4 Czech Republic at 204 MW per million, and #5 Greece at 143 MW per million people. The US came it at #20 with about 25 MW per million people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Notice how we don\u2019t even feature on that list? I know we\u2019re a small country but we could be doing more. It\u2019s certainly spiked upwards but it\u2019s hardly the runner-up to winning the medal, let alone the gold seeker!<\/p>\n<h2>The Good News<\/h2>\n<p>There is good news in this muddle of information. Offshore wind generation (which is the UK\u2019s second largest renewable source currently after biomass) has increased by 46% in 2012 and had a greater load factor than gas. It\u2019s not just about turning off the television or light bulb any more. It\u2019s about moving forwards and growing with the changes happening around us.
