All solar lights have batteries. The batteries store the energy generated by the solar panel by day so the light can run at night.

The light is made of metal and is treated to make it weatherproof but over time it is possible for this protection to fail so it is advisable to re apply a water barrier to the product annually if you wish to maintain an as new look.
