FAQs: Astron Solar Motion Light

Frequently asked questions

Will this light fix to a fence panel easily or is it too big and heavy? If so can you recommend the best sensor motion light for a fence panel please

Asked by Elizabeth Lloyd on 18 Jul 2023

The Astron has been discontinued. However the Slimsafe light that is an upgrade can be fitter onto a fence panel as long as the measurments match

I am afraid not. The pir sensor cannot be turned off on this light.

We purchased because the dexlscription says you can tilt the angle through 180 degrees .... how do you secure once you have the light at the angle you need as there is not ratchet or screws?

Asked by Christine Daley on 12 May 2021

You do not need a screw. Once positioned it will stay on the specific angle selected as it fits between the two ends of the light and secures there.

Do you have any lights that offer background light then light up when activated!?

Can the batteries be used instead of solar

Asked by David Brett on 23 Jan 2021

The batteries are rechargable, so they rely on the solar panel to charge them up.

Please can you provide more details on the new "Powersaving" feature - how is it activated? - what is the effect on lumen output? - does it affect the time the light stays on when triggered or is it just a reduction in light output?

Asked by Eric on 20 Jan 2021

Please note the PIR motion sensor (the white “bubble” on the front of the light unit) needs to be pointing to where you want any motion detected to operate the light. 1.Leave the light to charge for 3 - 5 days 2. Push and hold the light switch button to the right of the white PIR bubble after dark for approximately three seconds. The AstronSolar Motion Light will activate immediately in power saving mode and turn off again after motion has ceased. 3. Push the light switch button again briefly to activate full brightness mode .4. To turn the light off permanently push and hold the switch button for 3 seconds.

Does the light go off completely when the PIR has not detected anything. Many similar lights, these days, revert to a low background light during dark hours. Living in a rural area, I do not want to emit light pollution.

Asked by Malachi on 11 Jan 2021

The light will go out once motion has ceased. There is no background light.

Do you have a mounting drawing for this light please ? Thanks

Asked by William Maxwell on 3 Jan 2021

We do not have any drawnings however in the instructions that come with the light state. The Astron Solar Motion Light should be installed onto a flat vertical surface. Measure, mark and drill the screw holes. Drill the marked holes, insert wall plugs and screw the Astron Solar Motion Light into position.

Will the sensor pick up the same distance from the side ?

Asked by JANE WHITEHURST on 19 Nov 2020

Yes it can pick up motion from the side

Is the LUX & sensitivity of the PIR adjustable? I would use within approx 3m from the pavement and wouldn't want it triggering when people walk past the house.

Asked by Tony Butler on 21 Sep 2020

Hi, these are not adjustable on this model, this is only adjustable on our EVO SMD Range

will it recharge on a dull winter day? Solar lights work great in summer but really poor performance in winter?

Asked by chris berry on 13 Sep 2020

Provided that the light is in a good sunny position to re-charge and not under any eaves/roofing (as the panel is on top) then it will be fine. As it a motion activated it will last longer in the winter months as it is not on all the time.

Would this work on a north facing wall?

Asked by Tim Berrisford on 26 Aug 2020

We would not recommend this for a North facing wall.

Is the solar panel on top of the light, or is the panel separate?

Asked by Patricia James on 25 Aug 2020

The panel is on top of the light.

Is there any way to increase the time it stays on? ie if somebody is unloading shopping from a car on a drive it would be great if it stayed on more than a few seconds.

Asked by sam conolly on 17 Aug 2020

This light has a fixed up to 30seconds before switching off however if it detects motion it will stay on.

Hi, still a bit confused on the dimensions. Please confirm back dimensions which sits on the wall and the depth of the whole unit.

How does this affix to the wall ? Does it have a fixing plate that screws onto the wall and the rest of the light is attached to ? Or does it just hang off screws ?

Asked by John on 4 Aug 2020

That is correct there is a fixing plate you can screw in.

Due to where it may have to be located, is it possible to move the angle of the white PIR bubble to pick up more to one side?

Asked by Mark Walker on 2 Aug 2020

The PIR sensor is fixed on this light, it will pick up movement around 120 degrees

Can you have the light on constant or is it only motion sensitive?

Asked by Jackii Crockett on 15 Jul 2020

This is just motion activated

Asked by Colin Procter on 25 Jun 2020

A neighbour of mine has just purchased one of these lights from yourselves.I installed it for them over the weekend above there patio doors. The light dose come on but we want to know if the length of time that the light stays on can be adjusted or even the angle of the motion sensor. Regards Mr Griffiths.

Asked by Andrew griffiths on 1 Jun 2020

I am afraid that the angle of the sensor and the run time, once the PIR sensor triggers, cannot be adjusted on this unit.

Is there an override or on/off switch for this?

Asked by H Which on 6 May 2020

There is an on/off switch but not an overide, this light will only work as a motion detection light.
