How high should the lights be fitted on a 6ft fence.

It depends on where you want the light to shine, I would recommend testing at various heights to see which gives you the most desired effect.
We have a pair of the Avon wall lights and have been very pleased with them. However, one has stopped working and I am thinking that the battery needs to be changed. Of course I have lost the instructions and I cannot see how to get inside to change it. Can you help?

Hello, Unfortunately, the Avon lights do not have replaceable batteries. It is a sealed unit.

Hi there, The back of the light is 9.7cm by 7.7cm, the screw holes are 3.5cm apart.

They are screwed on.
Please can you tell me the position of the solar panel on the light? I cannot see in your photo, is it on the top along with the upward-facing light?

We provide the fixings, it's fixed by screws and Rawlplugs which is provided.

Hi there , If its shaded it will block the light from getting sunlight to charge so I would advise positioning is somewhere where it has full access to sunlight.
Can you tell me if these would get adequate charge on a north facing wall? Also, can you confirm they automatically switch on at night. It doesn't say on the product description.

They need to be installed on a South facing wall. They come on automatically when it gets dark.
Can these lights be set with a timer to go off?

They can be installed on a fence.
From your diagram, it looks as if you have to remove the light from the wall to switch it on or off. Is this right?

The switch button is located at the back of the unit. However, if the unit has been left switched on, it will come on automatically each evening.

Correct there are 4 lights in each corner at the top and four lights in each corner at the bottom.

The lights can be installed on a fence. How many units you will need depends on the effect that you want to achieve.

The light is all contained, so panel is on top.

These lights are automatic when swicthed on they will illuminate when they detact darkeness and turn off when they detect daylight. The do have an On/Off switch on the light it'self to stop it's automatic function.
If mounted on a straight northfacing wall - will it only work for approx 2 hours during winter or more likely not at all? Thanks

We would not recommend this for a north facing wall.

Yes this can be turned off/on but if you wanted to leave it on, it will come on automatically and then turn off after the battery has run out or daylight.
How long does the first charge take, does the light need to be switched on to charge.

We recommend 3-5 days in the 'off' position for a full charge.
Can you turn them on and off or do they come on automatically and stay on until they run out of charge? If they don't turn on and off can you recommend a similar product which you can turn on and off. Thanks

You can turn these on/off when you like, however, the button is on the back of the light, so it depends how high up they are as to whether you wish to do that every night. If left on they will automatically come on and stay on until they run out of charge.

The lights can last up to 10 hours on a full charge, in winter you may find a shorter run time of up to 6 hours. Water should not be able to get into the light as it is sealed.

These are only available in a warm white at the moment, but I will pass on the cool white idea at the next product meeting.

The solar panel which is on top of the light needs sunlight so we recommend a southern facing wall. The light will still work on a north-facing wall but will significantly reduce the performance especially in winter.
Is the solar sensor on the top of the cube? Is this suitable to fix on 4 inch posts at the side of somew steps? Is the fixing screws or does it hang on two screws in the post?

Yes, the solar panel is integrated on top of the cube. Yes, 4 inch posts will be fine, the light installs by screwing two screws into the post then sliding the light onto those screws.
