Do you have a version of the Chester Up & Down Solar Wall Light (with solar panel) but with PIR?

Asked by E Howard on 12 Nov 2025

Hello, Unfortunately, we do not.

I have 5 of the old style Chester lights (pre leaf) and I want to use them, but the solar panels have died. I want to replace the panels or switch them to mains, can you point me in the direction of something I can use as a replacement solar panel? Please

They come on from dusk till dawn however you can manually turn them on/off.

My Chester light was slowly fading. I bought another one but used only the light as the old solar panel still works. I was wondering if I could buy a new Lithium battery and put it in the old light? Would that work as I don't know if the lithium battery goes in the light or the solar panel?

The batteries are replaceable and they are in the panel. The batteries are Li-ion 2600 (mAh) 3.7V

Each panel can support only one light. There is an on/off switch button.

Does the internal battery only charge with sunlight or can it be charged via the socket under the rubber cover at the bottom

The Chester Up and down stainless steel won't have the option to be charged via the USB cable. That would only apply to the anthracite edition.

Can you use multiple lights with a single extention lead?

Asked by Ellen Fletcher on 1 Jun 2020

No, you can only have one light head per panel. The panel is designed to power just one light. You would need a much larger panel to couple with two lights.

Iv put the light up and plugged it in to the solar panel so do I just leave it for a few days or is there a on & off switch thank you

Asked by Mel on 6 Mar 2020

That is correct, we usually recommend 3-5 days in the sun outside before switching on using the button on the back of the panel.

The extension cable does it connect into the back of the light, when up and therefore show, , thanks

The extension cable extends the current cable which connects the light and solar panel.

On first installation what should the position of my button be on the back of the solar panel, Off, S, or P because of yet my lights have not been working after 5 days of charge.

Asked by Garry on 30 Dec 2019

We recommend these being in the 'off' position for 3-5 days outside (not behind any glass) and after that time, depending on which season change it to 'p' (for winter) or 's' (for summer)

What is the average lifespan of the unit?

Asked by Hester on 11 Oct 2019

The lifespan of the Chester is roughly 4 years, they should last longer and you can change the batteries. All our lights have a one year warranty.

Is it possible to run two of these off one solar panel? I want a pair either side of my bi fold doors, also could I buy two x 5m cables and have the solar panel right out of the way or will this distance effect the charging / power distribution?

Asked by Andy on 5 Jun 2019

You can not charge two lights off one panel as the panel is the optimum size for a single light. Each extension cable will reduce the performance but this can be outweighed but a better panel location.

Do you need 1 extension for each light or can you cut the cable.Im assuming the cables have fixed adaptors?

Asked by Steve on 6 Apr 2019

Each cable has, at each end adaptors to extend the distance so you'd cut them.

Asked by Sally Lee on 15 Mar 2019

The switch is on the solar panel.

Can u connect more then one up together and run on the same solar panel

How do they charge is there a cable between light and solar panel?not visible in pictures

Asked by Paula Foster on 19 Nov 2018

The cable is clear and is in the picture, you might need to zoom in. The picture shows the cable coming out of the middle of the light at a right angle toward the panel then straight up to the panel.

I want to mount the light on a north-west facing wall and the sensor on the adjacent south-west facing wall (where I have two Truro solar motion lights). Is it likely that the amount of sun it gets in winter will not be enough to keep the battery charged even on the power saving mode?

Asked by Colin Brewer on 18 Nov 2018

Ideally, the panel should be south facing but south-west can also work if the panel is in a great position. The Chester does have optional extension cables so you can find the best location for the panel. Some customers have fitted panels at right angles to a south west/east wall making the panel face south.

Will the light work if it is placed in a structure that is panelled with polycarbonate roof and side panels? We have a Laminate & polycarbonate structure over an outdoor pool and need to add lighting within structure. Thanks.

Asked by Melanie Warwick on 8 Nov 2018

We wouldn't recommend it as it would reduce the light getting to the panel, the Chester does have an extension cable which you can but here .

How much does the extension cable cost?

Asked by Veronica on 5 Jul 2018

You can find the 5 metres extension cable here

Asked by colin whitmore on 23 Nov 2017

With the 5M extension cable does that give 6M total with the existing 1M that comes with the light or does it replace the 1M cable?

Asked by Paul on 6 Nov 2017

The extension cable adds on to the current cable thus extending to up to 6m.

The photograph shows the lights in position but without shadowing the cables from the solar panel going to the lights. How is this achieved, do the cables need to attach to the lights?

Asked by Stan Roach on 21 Oct 2017

The cables are attached to the light. The cable is clear. Our current main picture shows the cable coming out of the middle of the light and up to a panel. As it's clear it's a little hard to make out. More pictures to come soon.

Can you give me the dimensions of the separate solar panel? What is the benefit of this vs the built in panels such as the Truro?

Asked by Paul on 26 Sep 2017

The size of the panel is 19cm wide and 14 cm high. The main benefit with a remote panel is being able to locate the panel and light separately allowing you to put lights where sun light is limited in the day and the panel in a better (sunnier) location. The design of the light would only work with a remote panel due to the up light.

Please could you give the measurements of the Chester light ... particularly the height. Many thanks.

Asked by Karen Williams on 24 Sep 2017
