Asked by Graham smith on 27 Jan 2024
Hello, Our lights really need to be in a south facing position so they get as much sun as possible, especially in winter as there isn't as much sun.
Hi Please may I ask about the powersaving mode. How many lumens is the powersaving mode? And it says that the runtime is doubled in powersaving mode, does this mean that the the time the light is on for doubles from 15 seconds to 30 seconds each time, or does it mean that the light is available for double the amount of time? Many thanks Janet
Asked by Janet on 7 Jan 2024
Hello. The standard mode is: 160 Lumens, The power saving mode is 80 Lumens, The motion sensor will activate the light when motion is detected and turn off approx 15 seconds after motion ceases.
Hi, I have a north east facing front door. Will the battery be able to charge in these circumstances ie with limited direct sunlight in the winter? Thanks
Asked by Pat on 29 Dec 2023
Hello, Our lights need to be installed in a south facing position to get as much sun as possible.
I have an older version of this with an on/off switch instead of the hole for the pin. My problem is that I have to keep on switching the light on every night when it gets dark and only after that does it become sensitive to motion. I use this near my back door on a free standing block of wood and when there is little sunlight in Winter I move the block and light to an area in the garden that gets fuller sunlight. Believe it or not, the light is for my cats so so they can see who is outside their cat flap and don't get ambushed when they leave the house at night! I hope you can help. Thanks.
Asked by Andrea Power on 12 Nov 2023
Hello, it depends on what movement your light could be picking up in the night? It can trigger up ti 250 times in the evening, if it is at a low level there could be some interference? The new version does have the on/off switch, so if it is a the newer version, please can I ask whether you can try leaving the light off for 3-5 days and make sure it is being run in powersaving mode for the Winter. If you are still having an issue, the best thing to do is take a photo of the location and send it through to info@thesolarcentre.co.uk and our friendly customer service team will be happy to help.
Hi I've got a few of these and very happy with them, one of them has died. Can I get a new battery for it?.
Asked by Chris on 26 Oct 2023
Hi Chris, the battery on this light in not replaceable. Have you tried switching the light off completely leaving it in a sunny position for 3 to 5 days and turing it back on it may just need a booster charge.

Does the new Eco Wedge XT have two mounting screws - one at the top and one at the bottom? The video says yes, but I've read among the reviews that the new one only has a mounting screw at the top.

I do apologise for the confusion, the new updated version only requires one screw which is at the top.

Hi, Just received ECO welcome sensor light and ready to go on outside wall , prior to fitting I would like to know what the recommended min and max height is prior to installing

Do these have over-charge protection or any protection at all? I've bought cheap versions of these and the batteries explode out the side in direct sunlight!

We have not had reports of these exploding or causing any issues for as long as we have been selling the product.
Hi! Q1. Will this light come on at night if there are street light in its vicinity? Q2. When you advise that the 3 metres detection range cannot be adjusted, does it mean that even partially obscuring the PIR sensor won't reduce the range? Thanks.
Asked by Domi on 12 Apr 2021
If any light is getting on the panel on top of the light then the light will not come on as it will assume it is daytime. You can try partially obscuring the sensor which might limit the range, but only from the side you have covered.
is it made in china
Asked by jeffrey robertson on 9 Apr 2021
All of our lights are designed in the UK but manufactured in China.

As the panel is integrated we would recommend the light getting as much direct sunlight as possible.
Are you able to turn off the motion so that the light just comes on and stays on?
Asked by Laurie Houkes on 6 Mar 2020
The motion cannot be switched off I am afraid, it is soley PIR based light. We do have our Wedge Elite , Wedge Plus which you can have this on for an hour or on a low light throughout the night and then brighter when someone approaches.
I want to paint the casing (not the solar panel) red to match the colour of my front door. Do you think the casing would accept paint?
Asked by Steve Prince on 26 Feb 2020
We would not recommend painting the outside of the light as some paint might penetrate the light in any holes and could stop the internals working. Any modifications to the unit will not be covered by the warranty.
The text says the PIR range is 3m whereas the video says 5-8m, so which is correct?
Asked by Steve Prince on 25 Feb 2020
3m is the correct range. The video is for the old version of the light. This is the XT version.
I want to illuminate my shared driveway and put the unit on the side of my house, maybe 2, will the PIR detect movement from a side angle? Also, there can be several people up and down the driveway visiting an elderly neighbor, would this potentially drain the power to failure? Thanks Paul
Asked by Paul Mather on 5 Jan 2020
The PIR sensor has a 120 degree angle. I would just check the wall yo uare planning to put this onto, if it is a north facing or heavily shaded I would look at one with a remote solar panel. The light has 250 triggers, so it should be fine with visitors.
How do you detach the solar panel? I need to be able to use the extension wire to site the solar panel in an appropriate position.
Asked by Norman on 27 Dec 2019
The panel cannot be detached as it is attached to the product. Please look at our 'remote solar panel' security lights in our Security light section.

No, this a security light and is motion activated. Please have a look at our wall lights here
What is the detection angle of the sensor please

Detects motion up to 3 metres away
How long does the ECO Wedge XT light come on for once triggered? can that be adjusted?
Asked by Russ V on 9 Feb 2019
10 seconds. The light will stay on while it is detecting motion and turn off a few seconds after motion finishes. The time cannot be adjusted.
Excellent lights would recommend. Have two above back doors and one above garage. Just wondering if there is anyway can alter the sensor? Currently one above garage activates when anyone walks passed or a car passes (approx. 10 meters away from sensor) which is great but Id rather only activated when someone walks up driveway towards house etc. Cheers :)
Asked by Andrew on 30 Nov 2018
Unfortunately, you can't change the range on the Eco Wedge other than change the position the light is installed.
The path I need to light up gets little direct sunlight. Will shaded daylight be enough to charge the batteries? It will not get a lot of use, just occasional use.
Asked by Robin Sumsion on 23 Nov 2018
If you start off with a full battery and use the powersaving mode then it should keep going just fine with occasional use.
Couple of questions before ordering. 1. In the photos of the eco wedge xt it has an on switch on the left which is a manual type but the other photos and video show the on switch on the right but operated by a small pin. Which one is the eco wedge xt? 2. The photos of the led lights are different in that one shows only 4 leds and the other shows 25 led. How many leds does the eco wedge xt have?
Asked by Chris on 22 Nov 2018
The XT has the push button switch. We've left the old pin operated pictures as customers have said they help to show the scale of the unit while we await new pictures. Thanks for pointing out the old image, the XT has 20 LEDS, brightness (lumens) remain unchanged.
Although in day light it does not light in early dark nights I bought two at B&M the second one works OK is it possible to get new batteries thanks Matt
Asked by Matt Yuill on 22 Nov 2018
We don't sell to B&M so unfortunately can't help you.
I need to mount this only 1m high (on a post), will the motion sensor still reach 3m? Or does the range decrease if the unit is mounted so low. Thanks.
Asked by Chris on 14 Nov 2018
It should be fine, the only issues could be having plants, chairs, tables blocking the PIR
How long does the light stay on for?
Asked by tim johnston on 9 Nov 2018
10 seconds. The light will stay on while it is detecting motion and turn off a few seconds after motion finishes. The time cannot be adjusted.

What hight can your wedge xt sola motion be fitted . I live in on second level apartment a want to shop people climbing up. In the dark
Asked by John cooke on 9 Sep 2018
The sensor range is about 3 meters.
Can you tell me the range of the motion sensor? We have pavement directly outside our door and don't want every passerby triggering a light, but it would be great to have one where we could step right up to the door and even wave over our heads to light up the door to get the key in!
Asked by Hannah Moynehan on 19 Jun 2018
About 3 meters range.
Can you change the battery on this model please
Asked by Avril Foster on 15 Jun 2018
No the battery is not replaceable
I need a light for half way up outside steps. Will this lght detect movement from higher up for people going down rather than up?
Asked by Janet on 9 Jun 2018
Sadly all PIR sensor only work forward facing. One option to consider is putting the lights along the side of steps if possible.
Do you have alight the same as the eco-wedge but without the movement detector?
Asked by Colin Turner on 12 Apr 2018
Not really, the Eco Wedge Elite has a remote control which offers far more functions including an on at dusk setting. Click here
I need a light for the external stairs leading to my property, can you let me know who well the light works in the winter due to less daylight? does the battery need a specific amount of time to charge and does this carry over if the light isnt used?
Asked by emma on 16 Feb 2018
The Eco Wedge works perfectly in winter. The battery will charge whilst its daylight and only use up power when triggered by motion. No motion for 2 days then it would only be charging the battery.
A neighbour has just installed one of those lights and it strikes directly at my kitchen window & my front glass door. It's on 24 hrs daily and can be so annoying through the night as it lights up the house. Does it have to be on 24 hrs daily
Asked by J Maxwell on 13 Feb 2018
The Eco Wedge has a PIR which detects motion. The light will only come on when motion is detected. The light will not activate during daylight. I'd ask your neighbor to move the light.
How long does the light stay on when activated
Asked by Theresa Hammerle on 9 Feb 2018
10 seconds. The light will stay on while it is detecting motion and turn off a few seconds after motion finishes. The time cannot be adjusted.
This is motion sensitive. It lights up when it detects motion. Is it also light sensitive? Will it light up when it gets dark and switches off when it gets bright? Thank you.
Asked by Romeo Tiongco on 13 Nov 2017
The light will only come on in the dark and when motion is detected.
Do you sell a security gadget that is both light motion sensitive? it lights when the day gets dark and switches off when the day comes in? Thanks.
Asked by Romeo Tiongco on 13 Nov 2017
Currently, we only offer each type of light function independently.
Hi I want to put this light at the bottom of some steps, will the motion sensor pick movement up from above it? Thanks
Asked by Gemma on 20 Oct 2017
The PIR motion sensor will only pick up motion in front of the senor, you could consider placing them to side of steps.
Hi - Wanted to use the ECO wedge inside a porch : will the solar panel still charge if it is inside the porch or does it need to be outside? Thanks
Asked by Brigitte yip on 8 Apr 2017
If it's a south facing porch that gets good light the Eco Wedge will still do a good job in this location.
Can i install on a east or west facing fence
Asked by Mark scitt on 3 Dec 2016
Hi Mark, many customers use the Eco wedge on east or west facing walls, you just need as much light as you can get. Direct sun light and facing south with no obstructions is best but as the Eco wedge on triggers on movement its will all depend on how often it's likely it is to trigger.
Some of my lights have stopped working but not sure whyCan there be a loose connection or should something be replaced?whats the life span of these lights?
Asked by Reece on 23 Sep 2016
We would expect the ECO Wedge to remain operational for 3 years.. When lights stop working it is always worth looking at the installation location and movement of shadows around the light as an area that may have been sunny in summer may be shaded in winter. If your lights are less than 2 years old and in a good southernly facing position and are still not working please contact returns@thesolarcentre.co.uk and they will be able to do further trouble shooting with you.
Our front door is in a 320mm deep U shaped recess and facing North, which is not ideal, although we do live in Southern Spain and get plenty of sunshine. From your experience would it best to fit it on one of the side walls adjacent to the door, but within the recess, or on the front face of the house, above the recess.
Asked by DUNCAN DAVIES on 6 Jan 2016
We do not recommend installing this on a north facing wall. The solar panel requires direct sunlight and not just access to the open sky. Sorry.

How long does it stay alight or can this be specified?
Asked by Frank Burson on 7 Nov 2015

Is it possible to override the PIR and to have he lights on permanently? If not do you have such a light?
Asked by Vaughan on 8 Jun 2015
It is not possible to override the PIR so it is on permanently. I would recommend the Kensington Solar Wall Light instead.
Can I adjust the time that this Welcome Light stays on after it has detected motion? It seems to go off after a few seconds.
Asked by AL SIRISENA on 7 Jun 2015
Unfortunately you cannot adjust the time setting. It will stay on for the duration that movement is detected and go off soon after it stops.
How far from the unit can it detect motion please?
Asked by Karen on 19 Apr 2015

First time charging - does the device charge when it is switched off using pin hole? If so how long does it require to charge before I switch it on?
Asked by Nick on 10 Apr 2015
The device will charge while switched off. We recommend 3-5 days of charging time before starting to use your unit.
Can the batteries be removed from this unit & charged manually. I would like to use larger capacity batteries.
Asked by derek slotta on 22 Feb 2015
No, the Wedge contains a bespoke lithium ion battery that cannot be removed to charge manually.
Can the sensor range be adjusted? Thanks
Asked by Graham Smith on 14 Jan 2015
You cannot change the sensor range on this unit.
Does the solar panel require direct sunlight to work or is daylight enough ? Want to put it in the alley between two houses with no direct sunlight.
Asked by Matt Lorenz on 13 Jan 2015
The solar panel must be receiving direct sunlight to work to it's best potential.
I have just fitted my 2 new Eco wedges - it mentions removing the protective film from the solar panel but there does not seem to be an obvious film. I don't want to risk damaging it, am I missing something please?
Asked by Janet Flynn on 2 Jan 2015
It may be that your units do not have the protective film. I know this was missed on one batch. It should be pretty obvious if there is a film on it so if you cannot see anything please assume it was missed in manufacture.
How long does the light stay on after detecting movement? Ideally less than one minute, otherwise a few winter cloudy days will deplete the battery charge.
Asked by Steve Thompson on 27 Dec 2014
It is less than one minute. The unit will work in winter.
Is it possible/necessary to adjust the range of the PIR? Our front door is 1.5 metres from the street and up 5 steps. We don't want to be woken by the milkman!!

Asked by Peter Ward on 5 Dec 2014
Unfortunately this is not available in white. This is not suitable for repainting.
Have jut purchased this and am trying to work out how to turn it on. When I put the pin into the hole the 4lights come on and stay on if I press it again they go off. Have screwed it to the wall with them off! Thanks for your help.
Asked by Amanda Aldridge on 18 Nov 2014
The light should eventually turn off so long as the solar panel is receiving daylight.
Hello the instructions say that you should remove the protective film from the solar panel. I have tried but it's not obvious where the film edges are. Without taking a knife to it I can't lift anything . I don't want to damage it so can you please confirm that there actually is a protective film and and the best way to remove it. Thank you
Asked by geoffrey lloyd on 14 Nov 2014
The protective film should be very obvious. If you cannot see it then it sounds like it does not have one on your unit.
Do you sell the eco wedge solar motion with dusk/dawn photo cell?
Asked by matt maxwell on 26 Oct 2014
The Eco Wedge Solar Motion Light has a sensor in the solar panel that will tell the light when to start working when it gets dark.
Hi, I have 3 questions if you don't mind. 1. What is the overall height of the back plate? 2. Will the solar panel still work if I mount the light inverted at around 45 degrees (on the chamfered edge of a sandstone plinth above a door?). This would roughly put the LEDs facing down with the solar panel vertical (hope that made sense). 3. How long does the light stay on after being activated and can this be adjusted? Thanks.
Asked by David Hayhurst on 15 Oct 2014
1, Overall height is 113mm. 2, The solar panel must be facing the sky and receiving direct sunlight. 3, 10 seconds which cannot be adjusted.
Hi there, I'm asking the same sort of question as P Bateman, as I have just purchased 2 of these from you through Amazon. When I turn them on; they come on dim and brighten up fully when motion is detected but then they stay on dim indefinitely until motion is detected again, they do not turn off completely, are they faulty as don't really want them on permanently rather just when they are activated.
Asked by Alistair Burrows on 7 Oct 2014
We changed the Wedge to remove the dim mode by popular demand. Some of the earlier batches are still being sold by trade partners of ours.
What is the expected battery life? And are the batteries replaceable?
Asked by Chris Killick on 7 Oct 2014
3 - 5 years. The batteries are not replaceable.
Can you tell me the spread of light from these units as I intend to use them on a driveway that has no street lighting on it
Asked by R Blair on 4 Oct 2014
Roughly a 5 foot spread. It is good for a entrance way and very bright but it has not been designed to cover lots of meters.
Hello I was thinking of buying this product could you please tell me what is the watts coming out from this light. and can you get bulbs for this once they have blown
Asked by M.Habeeb Naseer on 1 Oct 2014
LED bulbs typically do not blow. They will dim after a long time. You cannot replace the LEDs but they should last a very long time. It is roughly a 50w equivalent.
1)In the FAQs there is reference to a modified design which would be fully operated by the PIR. Is that design available yet? 2) If the PIR is continuously triggered does the lamp stay on? 3) How long after PIR off is the light sustained?
Asked by John Holdgate on 24 Sep 2014
1) This is now available. The light no longer has a dim function. 2) The lamp will stay on while detecting movement and will stay on for a further 10 seconds after movement has stopped. 3) 10 seconds.
sorry but seems to be some confusion - does the " ECO Wedge Solar Motion Welcome Light " now turn off completely to save power or does it come on dim then get brighter when sensing motion?
Asked by p bateman on 24 Sep 2014
The Eco Wedge Solar Motion Welcome Light will only turn on if the PIR detects movement. The light will stay on for 10 seconds and then will completely turn off to save power until it detects movement again.
Have you managed to configure this light so that it is only activated by the PIR yet? If not, can you confirm that the Curve Solar motion light now only comes n when activated by the PIR? Many thanks
Asked by Andrew Smith on 23 Sep 2014
Both the Eco Wedge Welcome Light and Curve Solar Motion Light are now only activated by PIR detection. They no longer have the dim function.
Hi, I just bought one of these and it wasn't clear from the website that the light comes on in dimmed mode when it gets dark and gets bright when it detects movement. I had expected it to be off unless movement is detected, based on the answer to another FAQ. Can you confirm this is the correct operation and my light is not faulty? If it is correct it's no problem for me but I'd like to be sure it's working properly so I know the battery won't drain quicker than it's meant to. Thanks.
Asked by Alex on 5 Jun 2014
This operation is correct at the moment. It is not a faulty light. We are looking in to having it just as a PIR activated light at the moment.
Hi, I'm thinking of using these to light up a drive when reversing in. Will they pick up the movement of a slow moving car? I'm sure they do but wanted to double check. Oh and what sort of area do they light ?
Asked by Mark on 19 May 2014
PIR (passive infra-red) detectors rely on heat being detected so may not work on the movement of a car. This light is the equivalent of a 50 watt bulb and would be roughly 5m at an average height.
Q1 does this fitting have an over ride switch so that it can be used as a light for a fixed period of time? Q2 what are it's dimensions? thank you
Asked by glen robinson on 28 Apr 2014
This light only actives via PIR. There is no override switch. The dimensions are: 86.5 x 114.5 x 41.5mm.
