Hello, for the first initial charge it would need to be the off position for 3 - 5 days other than that the light will charge being on during the day.

There aren't different working modes. It's motion activated and switches on for 25 seconds, or off.
Can I turn it off to stop it coming on when I don't want it to, and vice versa?

Yes, the light can be switched off, but you will need to remember to turn it back on again. As this does not have a remote control this will need to be done manually now, depending on where the light is it might be tricky to do so.

Hello. We do not have a recommended height, as it depends on what you are looking to use the light for/to light up. It is worth testing it before installing to make sure it gives you the coverage you would like.
Approximately what area of ground does the light illuminate? know it's triggered at a range of 5 metres but I'd like to know how big a pool of light it actually provides. Thank you

This completely depends on the height at which this light would be installed therefore it is very hard to provide an accurate estimate without this information.

Please note there is not 6 modes for this light, 1.Leave the light to charge for 3 - 5 days 2. Push and hold the light switch (immediately to the right of the PIR bubble) after dark for approximately 3 seconds. The Eco Wedge Pro will activate immediately in full brightness mode and turn off again approx 25 seconds after motion has ceased. 3. Pushing the switch again will activate powersaving mode (this doubles the number of activations available per night), again the light will turn off approx 25 seconds after motion has ceased
I plan to use these lights on an east facing house wall in the village of Berwick, which is in North Northumberland. My current ones seem absolutely useless at retaining the small amount of light that we get this far North and nearly always run out of charge even before midnight. Can you perceive a problem with your lights which you suggest have a good solar capture characteristic?

As this is a security light it will hold more charge than one which is on all the time, however I would strongly recommend using the winter setting and making sure the light is not overtriggered unnecessarily by passing traffic/tree branches, this could cause the light to trigger more and run out of battery. I would just make sure there is no heavy shading over the panel and do allow it 5 days to receive a full charge.
I have just purchased the Eco Wedge Pro Solar Security Light, please could you advise me if this light has a timing adjuster to keep the light on longer. Thank you

All our products are designed in the UK and then made in China.
I have just bought one of your PIR lights i am charging it for five days before use. It will be ready on Monday to put in place. I trust I will be able to turn it on with the remote.

The model you have asked this on does not come with a remote. So if you have the ECO Wedge Pro, this does not come with one. However if you meant to comment on one with a remote, then yes after 5 days i nthe off postion outside in as much direct sunlight as possible, this should come on using the remote.

Hi, Is this light suppose to only detect movement and turn on in the dark? My previous one didn't turn on during the day but I recently bought a replacement and it appears to be detecting movement and turning on during the daytime as well. Is this correct as your website doesn't read as though it should?

Hi Scott, The light should only start working at dawn. If there is heavy shading it would also turn out the same way if you cover the panel it will turn on when movement is detected. Please do consider the location you have the light placed in and if there could be heavy shading
I'd like to install this in a place where there is not a lot of sunlight. Is it possible to remove the battery(s) and charge it (them) if necessary? I have the correct charger for a 3.7V Li-Ion battery as well as more conventional batteries. Thanks.

Hello. I have 2 Eco Wedges on my garage I have had them for several years now and they are excellent. This week, however, they've decided to both pack up simultaneously. I wondered if they have a finite life or whether I can extend their existence by, for example, changing the battery pack. Is this possible or are new ones on the cards.

Hi Nick, Sounds like these just need a boost. Please try leaving these switching off for 3-5 days and allow them to charge in as much direct sunlight as possible. We would not recommend attaching any charging kit. The batteries in these are not replaceable.

It will not, unless it is directly pointed at a space where it is capable of doing so- eg completely towards a set of glass doors, which expose a lot of movement, etc.

It will reduce the brightness to 350 lumens, which doubles the number of activations available per night, again the light will turn off approx 25 seconds after motion has ceased.
I understand that the sensor detects movement up to 5 metres away. Is 5 metres the absolute maximum? Our front path leading to the door is about 6 metres. Beyond that is the public pavement. Can I be 100% confident that the sensor won't detect people walking by on the public pavement? Thank you.

For the best output, you need direct sunlight, however, it will charge without direct sunlight but will limit the runtime. If the light isn't in a position where it would trigger a lot of times it could work.

I want to fit the light above our back door but two local factors make me wonder if our situation is suitable! 1 we live in Edinburgh- much less light available in winter than say the UK south coast! And 2 Our back door has a north facing aspect so there would only be around 15% of any day when the solar panel could receive direct sunlight (not that there is much sunshine in our winter anyway) I would appreciate your comments upon our specific situation in regard to this solar light being able to operate effectively in our location. If this light is not suitable can you recommend another product that would be effective in our specific location? Many thanks. Ed

We would not recommend these for a north face location.
I appreciate you lights like many are made to survive winter months given the material they are made from , my original question was does this product charge sufficiently to work through the winter period

We already have an outside mains light on a timer, so would this Eco Wedge be best placed nearby so would only come on when other outside light not on, or not working? I wouldn't want them both on at the same time. Thanks

Once the on/off button has been pressed there should be no need to press it again. Please do make sure once it is switched on the light is then left and the button is not pressed again. I would just make sure there isn't anything over triggering the light during the evening, traffic or trees/bushes etc?
My front door is positioned to the side of the house where we get less sunlight will this effect the light? Also does this light automatically go out after 15 seconds even when there is still someone there?

Hi I purchased the Eco Wedge Pro recently and installed it this weekend. I followed the instructions and left it to charge for 3 days before installation but unlike two others I have purchased from you when the light is activated by movement it immediately goes off after a fraction of a second. Does the light go off completely when the PIR has not detected anything. Many similar lights, these days, revert to a low background light during dark hours. Living in a rural area, I do not want to emit light pollution.

This does not require direct sunlight, as our lights can work in the british winter weather conditions however we advise you position them in idealy a south facing spot that will get alot of sunlight for the best results.

The sensor is inbuilt, so will go off after 30 seconds.

The detection angle is 120 degrees so it could just about work. I would be worth testing the light in both locations before installing it =or using a light with a remote panel.

We've recently installed three Eco Wedge lights around our block of flats, however the caretaker is not here after dark to activate them. Can they only be turned on after dark, or can this be done during daylight hours?

The lights can be switched on and then they will activate themselves (with motion) in the evening, so they do not have to be turned on every night, just simply activate and then leave them and wait for night time.
I have some cheap wedge lights which after a couple of days are losing their brightness. The higher performance of your lights is attractive. How many 15sec "on" periods would you estimate the light can achieve overnight? I am also keen to learn a bit more about the wall fixing, esp distance between nounting screws, to see if I can reuse thee xisting fixings in my house wall. Thank you

The light we estimate will give 500 Triggers Per Night Once motion is detected. The holes are based 126mm apart, there's a template supplied with the light to help out.

We strongly recommend that the lights are placed as south facing as possible with no shading or overhanging porches or eaves over the solar panel. As this is a PIR based it will conserve it's energy longer, so should have no issues lasting throughout winter.

On 28 November 2018 you said, in answer to a question, that turning on the light for three seconds puts it on in full power mode, pushing the button again will put it into Powersaving mode. In my instructions it states that the initial switch on is in Powersaving mode, press it again for full power. Which is it please?

I can't seem to find any instructions that say the initial setting is powersaving mode. I've just tested a light and it's full brightness on initial 3 seconds switch on and press again for powersaving mode. You can read our full instructions here

The product uses a standard Lithium Ion battery that can be replaced. We do not believe the battery will need to be changed for at least 3 years.

We don't have an ideal height as it depends on your usage. The detection distance is up to 5m so at 2.7m high it trigger point would be about 4-4.5m out from the door.
Would you recommend this model on a east facing wall only you have suggested to others with a north facing wall that a remote solar panel model might be better.Its just I would prefer a single unit type as I did'nt want excess cable showing between two units.

East/west facing is far better than a north facing walls. The security light will still work on a north facing wall but just not get as much charge. Have a good solid base charge of 3-5days (we recommend this on all our lights) will make a massive difference. The security light will work very well if it's not triggered all night.

It shouldn't be a problem. As these lights only trigger on motion you should get enough charge even in winter months. The only reason the light might not hold enough charge in winter is if it's being constantly triggered by say a busy footpath or road.
Ideally I would like to install a couple of these lights on the side of my house over the drive. Unfortunately this side wall faces just north of west, so not actually ideal. However, the drive would hardly ever be used so would the sunless daylight accumulate sufficient power to switch on the lights extremely occasionally?

We always recommend south facing but if you expect and low amount of triggers per day this should work fine. Overhanging trees, roofs or plants can block more sun vs the direction the panel is facing. Might be worth testing one.

The Pro Wedge has two holes in the back and comes with two screws for your wall or fence which it simply slots on to. Our instructions come with a template so you can line up the screws.

The beam emitted is approximately 150 degrees. The off the ground the more area it will cover along with the PIR sensing movement. The lower to the ground the brighter a small area would be lit. We would suggest anything from 4 foot to 8 foot of the ground depending on your needs. It best to test the light in different positions before permanently installing.
What's the minimum temperature it can withstand? And how many hours of sun (direct or indirect) needs for how many hours of light? Thanks

Designed for -10c but has worked in far colder air temperatures.

Two would be 1,000 lumens yes. South facing is always best but west can work just fine too. It well depend of how much light it gets and how much it will trigger.
Can you adjust the sensor activation? Our front door is less than five metres from the front gate, so would need a small field of activation.

Our SMD range all have sensor adjustments and the Shield but not the Wedge Pro. The height of the light effects the detection distance along with the surroundings.

It might be triggered from time to time however it shouldn't stop it working when you need it.
Roughly what angle is the beam produced by this light? In other words, if mounted at a height of around 3m, how far to each side would it illuminate. If mounted at this height to the rear of an 11m wide house, would it illumnate all the way across

The beam emitted is approximately 150 degrees however it's impossible to say whether this would be bright enough for your needs as lighting is very subjective. If you're uncertain at this lumen level the Evo SMD PRO is the next step up in brightness at 700 lumens, going all the way up to the Elite at 1400 lumens.
I wish to install the light above my front door which faces east. Will this light be suitable? During the winter months it will get 2 hours of direct sunlight in the mornings and 3 to 4 hours during the summer months. Thanks Peter

It should be fine if it's subject to normal domestic use and you charge the light in a good sunny spot before installing it.

Above a front door will be fine, you just need to factor in the higher it's installed the shorter the direction range at ground level however it would easily operate as a courtesy light as you access your house.
I am interested in purchasing this item to light up my front door and pathway. However they face west. Will the light work? I have been hearing that West facing is quite good for solar panels since it is directly facing the sun at the latter part of the day. Thanks

Yes, this light should be fine with normal domestic use facing west. We'd recommend charging it first in a sunny south facing location for 3 - 5 days before installing it to ensure the battery has a good base charge to see you through the worst of the winter.
I have two sets of steps leading to my front door and the Eco Wedge Pro sounds ideally suited to illuminate them. However, we have a sodium street lamp about 30 metres away from the house which throws the steps into shade (hence the need for a lamp unit) . Do you think the street light would affect the wall light? Making it think it is still light and thus not operate? Many thanks, Keith Tether

It's a difficult one to answer with any certianty however from what you describe they should be OK. There's a couple of options, start with one Eco Wedge Pro light and without installing it test it and see how it performs. If that doesn't do the trick you could upgrade to the Evo SMD . It's the cheapest model in our range with the option to adjust it to cancel out other light sources interference.

If it's not used very often, once or twice a night, you might get away with it however it's not an installation location we'd recommend. You'd probably find you'd have to move it once every few weeks to a good sunny spot to recharge it in the worst of the winter period. You'd be much better off going with something with a remote solar panel .
Lamp just arrived - can I take the battery out and charge it using a standard charger? If Yes - how do I access the battery? Thanks

The Eco Wedge Pro houses a lithium ion battery so cannot be removed and charged in a standard charger. Your best option is to give it 3 - 5 days with the light turned off to get a good base charge into the battery, this, combined with the charge picked up each day, should then see you through winter without any problems.
Can you switch the light on independent of the security aspect? If not, is there another solar light you could recommend? Thanks

You can't do this, the Kensington or the Astron Bulkhead are two alternative lights that are always on instead of motion activated.
Please confirm that even at night but with no motion detected the light is off (this is what I want). Some solar LED lights illuminate at a constant dim level when no motion is detected changing to a higher brightness when motion is detected. Thanks

It works exactly as you describe, it's completely off unless motion is detected at night.
Can you replace the battery and what type of battery is it? If not what is the expected battery lifespan under normal conditions.

The product use a standard Lithium Ion battery that can be replaced. We do not believe the battery will need to be changed for at least 3 years.
I've been thinking about installing a motion sensitive security light for a while and this looks ideal. We get a lot of hedgehogs, foxes and other beasts in the garden, are they likely to trigger it ? I don't want it going on and off all night. Thanks

It will really depend on the size of the beasts in the garden and of course the location of the light. Hedgehogs and smaller animals are very unlikely to trigger the light but larger animals like foxes are very likely to trigger. Most animals use the path time and time again in your garden so a well positioned light could angled away from these trails. The PIR works up to 5meters so beyond would not trigger.

The range of the PIR sensor is not adjustable. If you are looking for a adjustable PIR sensor then try the EVO Smd pro security light .
Will the light work like pir and remain on whilst motion detected remains within range.?

Yes, that's exactly how it works, it will only turn off after the motion has ceased or is out of range of the PIR.
