The kit is designed to work without needing a backup power source however it powers a standard 12v battery so any other methods for charging a 12v battery can be used.
How long can i expect this light kit to work on a typical winters day

his kit is designed to generate enough energy on a typical winters day to run the light for 2 hours per night. However the light will work for longer than this if you have spare capacity in the battery you are using.
