Hello looking for a sensor light for the front door which is north facing something small that would last all year round what would you recommend. Many thanks Brian

Asked by Brian Walters on 18 Feb 2018

Please look at our security lights ideally with a remote panel for a north facing wall, so you can place the panel where it gets the most light. If the light only needs to trigger a few times a day a non remote panel could work but we wouldn't recommend it.

Please can you explain how the pin on off switch works. When I first open the packet is the switch on or off?

Asked by ruth m cheshire on 18 Sep 2017

By default the light will be off. Leave to charge for 3-5 days in the sun and then install. Use the pin to switch on. If switching on in day light simply cover the panel with a cloth so no lights gets to it and you should see the light come on.

Hi - how will these perform if the light doesn't get direct sunlight during the day? How long do the batteries last and are the batteries replaceable? What colour temperatures are available - I would like a warm white around 3000. Thanks

Asked by haydn on 14 Sep 2016

The Kensington is a great performer year round, even on cloudy days. Batteries will last for up to 3 years and are replaceable. The Kensington is only available in natural white, 5000K.

Hi, I'm looking for a decent priced way to put some lighting in my garden shed. Would a couple of these do the job by hanging them in the shed? Thanks.

Asked by Jas on 9 Nov 2015

We do not recommend hanging these in the shed. The solar panel, which is on top of the light, needs to have access to direct sunlight.

What is the power output, in lumens or wattage

Asked by K Agyeman on 28 Mar 2015

It is roughly the equivalent of a 15w incandescent bulb. It is intended as a marker light rather than one to work/read by.

are there fixing points which would enable these to be surface mounted to a wall?

Asked by john hill on 21 Mar 2015

The Kensington is fixed to the wall in the same way a picture is hung. There are two holes in the back plate for screws to sit.

Will this work on a North facing wall?

Asked by Phyllis on 14 Mar 2015

We wouldn't recommend installing this on a north facing wall, it would probably work fine for 9 months of the year but would struggle throughout the darkest 3 months.

Is the color of this light warm or white

Asked by Salim on 28 Feb 2015

It is white.

Hi, could you tell me is these lights can be mounted inside a window frame with the solar panel facing out and the lamp illuminating the room. Regards Franc Kelly

Asked by Franc Kelly on 17 Feb 2015

You won't be able to do this with the Kensington, as with all solar lights it won't charge effectively through glass.

Hi, how do you replace the battery? is there a diagramme? Thanks

Asked by Joan on 31 Dec 2014

The battery can be replaced. Simply unscrew the plastic end cap and pull the battery out to replace it.

I would like to light our house sign, which is on a brick pillar, but it is north facing. Would the kensington / canterbury light work OK in this situation? Alternatively, could I put a small solar panel on the rear of the pillar (i.e. south facing) and connect it to the light unit? If so, what solar panel would be suitable?

Asked by Alec on 19 Dec 2014

I would not recommend the Canterbury. The Kensington may struggle due to the lack of sunshine. You may be better off using a spotlight aimed at the sign.

How many mAh is the current rechargeable battery in the wall light? Can I replace it with a 1900mAh one?

Asked by Stelios on 4 Dec 2014

It is a 1300mAh. You can replace it with a 1900mAh but please be aware that the solar panel may struggle to fill that battery especially during winter seasons.

This light would be able to do what you want. It does give off some light downwards and is considered to be very bright.

Does the Kensington have an off switch so that it is only on when we want it? If not, which of your lights do? Thanks Clive

Asked by Clive on 28 Oct 2014

Yes, there's a switch to turn it off when not required.

If two of this style light were fitted to each side of a wooden pergola beam over a dining table, in your opinion would there be sufficient illumination to see what one was eating from said table?

Asked by Margaret Mills on 16 Aug 2014

This is more of a decorative light, although it is very bright. I don't think it would be adequate for what you want. For what you want I would recommend spotlights instead.

What is the IP rating, max wattage and halogen equivalence on the Kensington?

Asked by Donna on 25 Jun 2014

It is IP44 and is roughly the equivalent of a 15w incandescent bulb. It is intended as a marker light rather than one to work/read by.

Is this light suitable to illuminate a house name sign on the brick wall at the front of our house? We live in an area with no street lights which makes it very hard for people to find us!

Asked by Ali on 26 May 2014

It should be fine for this purpose - as long as the sign is approximately the same width as the light.

Can you turn it off when you go to bed and will it still charge in the morning if in the off position

The light will still charge even when turned off. You could turn it off before bed if you want. The light would normally run until it exhausts the charge.

Dear Sirs, Is this product suitable for lighting a pathway if fixed to a 2 metre high timber hoarding. If so could you confirm the recommended spacing and fixing height. Regards Oliver Kannemeyer

Asked by oliver kannemeyer on 30 Jan 2014

At 2m above the path the Kensington solar wall light will struggle to light the pathway well. If there was anyway this height could be reduced it would do a much better job. Spacing wise at 1 - 1.5m above the path you'd need approx 1 every couple of metres.
