Hello, they can be however, the lights will only come on in the dark so you can cover the panel so the lights are on.

Is it easy to detach the solar charger from the lights so I can take it indoors to USB charge while leaving the lights in place? Or do I have to take an electric lead into the garden?

Hello, Yes, you can just unscrew the panel to take indoors to charge by USB.

Hello, The total string length: 10.7m. They cannot be joined together to another set.
How long is the string of bulbs and separately how long is the lead to the first bulb. Best wishes, Gary
