One of the pictures shows this light slightly positioned in an outside area. I am looking for a light to illuminate the space from my back door to the garage door. They are a few feet apart down the side passage of the house so there is not much daylight to charge a single unit light. With the solar panel that can be positioned in a brighter position and the light fixed under the shelter of the eaves, would this unit be suitable? If not could you recommend one that is. Thank you

Great question, the light itself is an inside light, it's design makes it ideal for hanging under gazebos, arbours and pergolas, it can be used as a solar shed or garage light with the solar panel mounted outside. As I am unsure of the space you are looking light or if there is anything for the light to attach to. If there is a covering then it should be fine to hang from there, however if it is exposed then I would recommend perhaps a security light with a separate panel like our EVO30 .

Hi, The lument rating for the light is 70 lumen, it is a warm white light, this light is dusk until dawn.
Will this light work when it is not fully dark....

Hi, The Richmond light is remote-operated which means you are able to switch it on and off using the remote, however, the light may fail to switch on if the photocell within the panel detects it is too bright for the light to do so.
Will this light charge when solar panel is on off position . I know it won't work but will it charge up the batteries

Hi Leigh, thank you for your message. Yes, you can leave your light off and it will still charge. Naturally the panel gathers a charge and stores it in the battery so when you are ready to switch the light on the battery will be fully charged
If it only works when the solar panel senses darkness, what happens if someone pulls the switch chord and it doesn't come on and forgets to pull it to the off position again, is it going to come on when the panel senses darkness even though nobody is there?

This light can only operate while it is completely dark / night outside.
What batteries are in the solar unit? I need to ship by air freight so have to remove the rechargeable batteries and replace overseas.

The description says this light is suitable for a pergola but in answer to a question you say that it should be mounted indoors. Not very suitable for a pergola then, is it?

It depends on the location of the solar panel. If the solar panel is exposed to some direct daylight it will be able to charge and perform.

If you turn off the light with the remote and only turn it on/off using the remote it will stay off until you turn it on

The batteries are replaceable. They need to be changed approximately every two years and that should keep your unit running.
Can you tell me please if this has a replaceable light bulb and if so what type it is. Also is the shade detachable? Many thanks

The bulb isn't replaceable however will last for up to 50,000hrs. The shade isn't detachable.

We do not recommend that. The batteries are inside the solar panel. The panel should be connected to the light all the time.

It would be suitable, the panel will of course need to be attached to the outside. The UV protection and refraction of light will cause the panel not to charge fully if it is behind glass.
The instructions mention a switch on the back of the solar panel, but there isn't one. How do we know if the battery is charging?

Apologies, we are in the middle of updating the instructions. As there were too many switches we have done away with the one of the panel. The light will charge in the on/off position, so you can always just leave it for a few days then use the 'on' button on the remote.

The Richmond is an inside light and the panel to go outside. The panel will be waterproof, but the Richmond should be installed inside a shed etc.

The height/drop of the Richmond cannot be adjusted at all. Any modifcations made to the unit will invalidate the warranty.

This really depends on how much light you need. I would suggest ordering and testing it before installing the light.
