Hi, In order to turn the lights on, you must press the ON/OFF button on the control. To trigger flashing mode on and off, you simply press the MODE button on the left-hand side.

What distance/area do they cover?

Hi Polly, The mushrooms are connected via one string (with 20cm between each one, 240cm in total) which leads to one solar panel (there is an additional 2m of cable between the panel and first light). If you wanted to cover a larger area than this we would recommend purchashing the number of sets you would need to cover your desired space. Hope this helps.
