Hello. Does the solar panel need direct sunlight to charge, or will a bright but cloudy day be sufficient? Also during the darker winter months when the sun is lower. Is charging likely to cause the unit not to light? Many Thanks
Asked by Jeff Walters on 1 Jul 2024
Thank you for your question, the polycrystalline solar panel charges using UV rays, which are still present on cloudy days meaning it can still charge. The charging will be quicker during a brighter day with direct sunlight.
How are the bulbs replaced in this?
Asked by Richard on 2 Oct 2023
Hi, The bulb in a light fixture is not replaceable for a few reasons. One common reason is that the light fixture is designed with an integrated or non-user-replaceable LED light source. In such fixtures, the LED component is built directly into the fixture and is not intended to be replaced by the user. This design choice can offer advantages such as energy efficiency, longer lifespan, and reduced maintenance. The LED lights built into the fixture are designed to last 50,000 hours, or over 5 and a half years (if the lights were to be constantly on.)
Hello, There is a review on this item that says it sits in dim mode and goes brighter once motion is detected. Your descriptions don't seem to state this though. Can you please confirm if this is true? Thanks
Asked by Antony O on 30 Apr 2023
Hi Antony, The light is motion-activated only, the light comes on once it detects motion and turns off 15 seconds after there is no more movement around it.
How do I switch between modes? There is only one power button and no instructions on this this, thanks!
Asked by Evie Calcutt on 21 Jan 2023
It's all located from the power button, so once you pressed it on it will be on standard mode and if you press it again it will be on powersaving mode and the 3rd time it will turn off.
Once the motion control has been activated for 15 seconds does it return to the dusk to dawn lightning? Many thanks
Asked by Karen Watkin on 13 Dec 2022
This light is motion-activated only, the light will come on and stay whilst it detects motion and switch off 15 seconds after it stops detecting motion.
What are the three settings for the switch on the back and how do I know which one I'm on
Asked by Anne Borakis on 28 Nov 2022
Hi There, You have the standard mode which will come on from the first press of the power button and is the brightest mode, then you have powersaving mode which dims your light but extends the runtime so you can tell when it's on this mode, Lastly, you have the 3rd press which will turn your light off.
How can is this light fitted? Does it have to be screwed on or ca. it be stuck in with heavy duty sticky pads? Thank you
Asked by Jane peace on 27 Nov 2022
Hi there, The lights are screwed on as it's more secure on the wall.
Hi, How many lumens would I need to provide enough light to get my keys out of my bag at the door, in otherwise complete darkness (in the country with no light pollution). Also would I be better with the motion sensor version at the door? I wouldn't mind the light on dusk til dawn if not so bright as to annoy the neighbours (semi detached) and then brighter for the key finding. Thank you
Asked by Nicky Bibby on 21 Nov 2022
Hi There, The light is 120 lumens bright whereas the dusk till dawn is 60 lumens bright. I would suggest the motion light if you're looking for a light to come on to see your keys out of your bag.
We are looking for 2 stylish motion security lights for our outside porch canopy Is this model ideal in a covered area or would they need to be located outside the canopy ?
Asked by Lee Garton on 15 Nov 2022
Hi Lee. The solar panel for these lights is located on the top. Theis part of the light would need to be in direct sunlight for the solar panel to charge the batteries.
Please to ask if the motion sensor might be set off by a tree moving gently in the breeze? It would be 2m away from the light. My present electric motion sensor light is not set off by the tree unless it's very stormy and would be hoping the same from this one. Thank you.
Asked by Alex on 15 Nov 2022
Hi Alex. The motion sensor on these lights would be triggered by a tree moving within the motion range of the light.
Can you tell me the time range of the motion on off please. I take it you can adjust the time the light stays on for when activated?
Asked by Simon on 4 Nov 2022
Hi Simon. Once motion has been detected, the light will illuminate for roughly 10-15 seconds. This cannot be adjusted.
Do you have a motion sensor light with a 'remote' solar panel? Where I need the light - is in the shade - so I'm looking for a light with a long lead to the solar panel, so that I can place the panel in the open - so it catches the sunshine - but have the lights illuminating the dark area (under a porch) Thank you
Asked by Morgan Becca on 29 Oct 2022
Hi Morgan. Yes, if you would like to look at our security lights , we have a range of lights that have a remote solar panel.
How much sun light does it need to get to function effectively. We have a west facing porch that doesn't get that much direct sun light. Will it work in these conditions?
Asked by Sam Johnson on 23 Oct 2022
Hi Sam. We do advise that our lights be installed in a south-facing position for optimal use. If you use these lights on powersaving mode they should be fine. I would also recommend looking at our lights with remote solar panels, which can be placed in a sunny position.
Is this PIR version of the Grantham light the same wall fitting so it can be slid on/off, after fixing the bracket?

1) does/can this light be off at night, except when motion triggers it to come on, and 2) can the motion sensor sensitivity be adjusted, so it only comes on if you are within a couple of metres of the light? Thanks
Asked by Richard on 25 Aug 2022
Hi Richard. This light can be left on and it will only be triggered when the light detects motion. The sensitivity of the motion sensor cannot be adjusted on this light.
Is this light available in black

Hi Farah. This light is not available in black. However, we do have other wall lights that come in this colour.
Can the sensor been made a little less sensitive? I would like it only to "read" people in 1 meter as I intend to fix it close to the pavement at my front door - so it should only catch people approaching the house, not walking past, Thank you for letting me know.
Asked by Bettina on 4 Jul 2022
Hi Bettina. The sensor range cannot be adjusted on this light, which means it can detect motion from up to 8 metres away.
how do i charge up the light initially, does it need to be switched on
Asked by Philip Perrin on 27 May 2022
Hi Philip. Our lights can be charged in both the on and off positions. We do advise that when you receive your light you switch it off and allow it to gather a base charge.

Hi Susie. Yes, this light is a solar-powered light.
Hi, I'm looking for a light for my front door but it is in a dark spot with no sunshine (which is why I need the light!) so do you have any lights that have a separate solar panel that I can place in the light?
Asked by Gemma Champ on 16 Feb 2022
Hi Gemma. This light would not work in a shaded area, as the solar panel is located on the top. I would suggest looking at our security lights , where you can position the solar panel in a sunny position.
How far does this light protrude from the wall
Asked by Paul D Metcalf on 13 Feb 2022
Hi Paul. These lights measure 170 mm.
Possibly a silly question but will the light power up in a shady spot? Our front door never sees the sun and it's for next to the front door. Thanks
Asked by Tana Holmes on 18 Jan 2022
Hi Tana. The solar panel for this light is located on the top, this is the section that will need direct sunlight to charge the batteries. If you wish to light a shaded area, I would suggest looking at lights that have a remote solar panel.
What angle is it when the motion sensor activates the light 180 degrees? Or do you need to be directly in front? Thanks
Asked by James wilson on 7 Jan 2022
Hi James. This light has a sensor that can reach up to 8 metres at a 100-degree angle when any motion is detected close by.
Hi there, are you able to set the sensor to activate in a smaller range than the up to 8m specified, say 3m?
Asked by Rebecca Dray on 3 Jan 2022
Hi Rebecca. The range on the motion sensor cannot be adjusted.

The instruction manual describes 3 possible modes for this light, but does not explain how to change the mode. There appears to be only one on/off switch on the rear of the light. How do I switch between modes?
Asked by Steve Denning on 28 Dec 2021
Hi There, To change modes press the power button as it's all located on the power button. Press once: Standard mode (recommended to use in summer and brightest mode) Press twice: powersaving mode (recommended to use in winter and dims light but extends runtime) Press thrice: the light is off.
Hello. Does this model include the solar panel? If it does where is the panel located in relation to the unit?
Asked by Corinne verrycken on 26 Nov 2021
It is integrated on the top of the light
I'm looking for solar lights for the outside of my summerhouse. What is the minimum lumens you would recommend for this to give a good light pkease?
Asked by Jennifer Gough on 13 Nov 2021
It depends on how big the area is and the effect that you want to give. Usually, something around 100 Lumens would be sufficient for a wall light.
Is it possible to set the light to be on permanently rather than just when -motion-activated?
Asked by Estelle on 31 Oct 2021
this is only motion detected however we do have the same light but from dusk till dawn : https://www.thesolarcentre.co.uk/products/Grantham_Up_Down_Solar_Wall_Light-896-56.html
Hi! Is it possible to adjust the length of the sensor, or is it always 8 meters? Wondering if it's possible to set it to only turn on if something is 1 or 2 meters away, and not more. Thanks!
Asked by Alex on 20 Oct 2021
The PIR sensor range cannot be adjusted.
Are you sure the solar panel is on the top of this model. It appears that the light is emitting light from the top and the bottom and therefore I don't understand where the solar panel could be located. A picture of this would really help. Thank you
Asked by Michael on 30 Sep 2021
The panel is integrated and the lights are on the outside edges of the panel, so will not interfere
How long does the light stay on for once it has been activated? Thanks.
Asked by John Wilkins on 29 Sep 2021
It will stay on for 15 seconds.
Hi, Would one light be enough for a standard 7m x 4m Front drive? What distance and angle does the sensor reach? Where abouts on the light is the solar panel? Could it be positioned below a porch for example Thanks
Asked by Tom on 21 Sep 2021
This light is 15cm high with an 11cm diameter and produces a stunning warm white light with a sensor that can reach up to 8 metres at a 100-degree angle when any motion is detected close by. the solar panel is integrated on top of the light. it would need to be positioned where your light is getting direct sunlight so as long as it is positioned in an area where there's sunlight coming through that would be perfect.
Does this light have an easily renewable li-ion battery
Asked by Michael Mellor on 19 Sep 2021
It does have a lithium battery but it cannot be replaced.
