Customer Reviews: Solar Panel 5 Watt

Good but needs a controller box.....
Reviewed on 30 Sep 2019
I already had one of these panels, still working after 4 years and it does work well. However, if left attached permanently to eg a car battery, without a charging controller it will discharge during the night. That said one can buy a decent(ish) controller for about £6 or so online. So that's what we do and the combination is ideal for keeping the ride-on mowers nicely topped up with charge.

Price very competitive: fixing OK but slightly ackward: it appears to charge the 12v battery as required.

Carried out a test run yesterday, didn't know what to expect and was thrilled when the small extractor fan I connected directly to the unit started to whirl. Well satisfied with its construction ..... I Need to learn a lot more about solar panels but at this moment in time a 4 star rating seems appropriate

Alloy frame makes mounting the panel very easy. I used pop rivets and small angle brackets to fix to the side of a shed. I found the connection box on the back tricky as the cable connections have to be soldered (no screw connectors) and also there is little free space making fitting the cover a tight fit if you use a good sized cable. Hence 4 star rating..

Well made unit

Looks good and works well in terms of producing the voltage and power as advertised. Supplier might maybe make it clear in the spec details that it does in fact contain a blocking diode. That and the fact that I will only know the longevity of the unit over a much longer period, are the only reasons for not gving it a resounding 5 star/excellent rating.

well constructed panel, solder connections. Charge starts at a reasonably low light level and brings my 7Ah fencer battery up to full charge easily during the day.
