Works in Winter
Do solar lights work in winter?
In summer the UK gets an average of 7 sun hours a day, but this drops to just 1 or 2 sun hours in deepest winter. This means that a typical solar light from the big DIY stores will usually work for less than an hour a night in winter even though it might deliver 8 hours a night in summer.
The Solar Centre has a long tradition of making high quality solar lights that work for much longer in winter. The products below have all been designed to work reliably year round in the UK and can work for up to 6 hours a night in winter.

While we always guarantee good quality solar lights, we can't guarantee consistent good winter weather. There are periods in every winter where there can be less than half of a sun hour each day for days on end and even our solar lights can struggle for a few nights. Rather than gloss over the issue we try to address it by innovating.
The Solar Centre was the first company to introduce booster solar panels on our solar security lights to double winter runtime and the first to offer backup USB charge on our solar fairy lights which guarantees they will work on that special winter occasion whatever the weather. And our brand new Powersaving technology will give you the option to reduce the brightness of your lights so they can work for twice as long each night in winter.
